Restoring Stained Glass Windows

Helpful Guide to the Process Start

  • Label and take pictures of each panel before removing them from the existing frame

  • Making a pattern - called a cartoon

  • Dismantling each piece from the old lead came​ and cleaning glass

  • Edge gluing, replacing, or painting any pieces to match in color and texture

  • Re-leading the window using the same lead came profile as the original

  • Solder and sealing with a linseed oil base putty for weather and strength and adding any reinforcing bars

  • Install the finished work back into the existing or a newly made frame
